Pune Municipal Corporation property tax: Rebate, amnesty scheme

Pune property owners wanting to avail the 40% rebate offered by PMC have to submit proof of self-occupancy. All owners registered with PMC from April 1, 2019 have to submit form PT-3 along with proof of self-occupancy  and Rs 25 fees to nearest ward officer or tax inspector by November 15, 2023. Failure to do will result in owner paying complete property tax with no rebate granted.

As a circular from Maharashtra state government regarding the reimplementation of 40% PMC property tax exemption is expected, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will issue property tax bills from May 1, 2023 as against April 1, 2023.

According to Punekar news, PMC has extended deadline till April 30,2023 to pay property tax for people who have received more bills owing to withdrawal of 40% exemption and have not paid it.  Also, PMC is offering rebate of 5% on general tax as part of early bill payment for people who will pay property tax by June 30,2023. Previously deadline for this rebate was May 31, 2023.

Reimplementation of 40% property tax exemption offered by PMC to residential properties has been approved by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in a meeting held on March 17, 2023. The official proposal of the reimplementation will be approved in the next cabinet meeting.

With Maharashtra state government not yet arriving on any decision, increased property taxes looms over the heads of Punekar. Since 2019, cancellation of the 40% discount for property taxes in the Pune municipal sector has affected over 500,000 property holders who may have to pay them with fines that will be compounded at 2% per month for the last 6 months in the FY23-24.
